Wedding Invitation Website: What to Include & How to Create One

Plan a clear online wedding invitation with names, dates, venue details, schedule, RSVP information and a mobile-friendly design.

A wedding invitation website gives guests one place to find the details they need. It can also introduce the couple’s story and set the tone for the celebration. The most useful invitation is not the one with the most effects; it is the one that makes important information easy to find and easy to share.

Put essential event information first

Make the first screen immediately useful.

Include the couple’s names and the date in a clear, readable format. Guests should not need to scroll through a long animation to discover when the event will happen.

Write the venue details precisely.

Provide the venue name and full address. If there are multiple events or locations, label each one clearly. A map link can be helpful when available, but do not rely on a map alone; some guests may prefer to copy the written address into their navigation app.

Clarify the schedule.

List the ceremony, reception and other relevant events in chronological order. Include start times and any arrival guidance that guests need. If the schedule may change, make it clear where updated information will be posted.

For guests joining from another country, write the event time together with its time zone (for example, UTC−5 or UTC+1). Do not rely on a time alone. If the celebration includes events in different locations, label the time zone for each event.

Decide what belongs on the invitation

Add a short welcome note.

A personal introduction can make the invitation feel warm without pushing practical details too far down the page. Keep the wording clear for guests who may not know every family reference or inside joke.

Include dress code and guest guidance.

If there is a dress code, explain it in straightforward language. Add only rules that guests genuinely need, such as venue access information, photography preferences or children-related arrangements.

Explain how guests should respond.

If the selected template includes an RSVP feature, explain what guests should submit and by what date. If it does not, provide the correct contact or response method. Do not imply that every Wishly design includes RSVP functionality.

Use photographs to introduce the couple

Choose a small, consistent collection.

A few photographs can add personality and help the page feel like an invitation rather than a notice board. Select images with good lighting and a consistent visual tone. Avoid placing text over busy photographs if it reduces readability.

Respect everyone’s privacy.

Ask permission before publishing photographs of other people, especially children. Consider whether public access by link is appropriate for the event details you are sharing.

Design for phones and different guests

Keep navigation predictable.

Guests may open the invitation from a messaging app, an older phone or a desktop browser. Use familiar buttons, readable body text and enough spacing for touch controls. Important details should not depend only on hover effects.

Use animation with restraint.

A short entrance effect can create a memorable first impression, but a long intro can frustrate guests who only need the date or address. Respect reduced-motion preferences and make the content available without sound.

Check language and formatting.

If guests use more than one language, keep event labels consistent and proofread dates, times and addresses in both versions. Spell out the month when there is a chance that date formats could be misunderstood.

Publish, test and distribute the invitation

Test the recipient experience.

Preview the invitation on a phone, click every contact or RSVP link and check that the event information is accurate. Ask someone who has not seen the page before to find the date, address and response instructions.

Send one clear link.

After publishing, open the public page and copy its link. Share it with a short explanation so guests understand what the link contains. If you update the schedule later, notify guests using the same channel you used for the original invitation.

Wedding invitation checklist

Before sending, confirm these details.

Names are spelled correctly; dates and times include the correct time zone if guests are travelling; venue addresses are complete; RSVP instructions are accurate; photographs are approved for sharing; and the page works on mobile.

Frequently asked questions

Can an online wedding invitation replace a printed card?

It can serve as the main invitation for some events, or as a companion to a printed card. Choose the format that works for your guests and family expectations.

Can I add an RSVP form to Wishly?

RSVP or reply interactions are template-specific. Check the selected template before promising guests that they can respond directly on the page.

Should I publish the venue address publicly?

Only share the amount of detail appropriate for your event. A link can be forwarded, so consider sending sensitive details through a more controlled channel.

Product features and editor options may change. Check the selected template and current Wishly interface for the latest available controls.
